You’ve already discovered our vineyards, our single vineyards, our wines and our philosophy. The only thing missing is getting to know the people behind them.
So, here’s the short version: there are four of us. We are a family winery, where everyone has their own role to play, working together on a shared stage. Our story began in 1750, when the estate was a traditional mixed farm with arable land, vineyards and livestock. From the 1970s onwards, viticulture gradually took centre stage, and by 1990, when today’s owner, Gerhard Markowitsch, joined the family business, wine had become its sole focus.
By Gerhard’s side is his wife, Christine. She oversees the winery shop, finance, accounting and the warm welcome of guests visiting the estate. As a passionate home cook, she also makes sure the family gathers around the table every day for lunch.
Joining them are their two daughters. Johanna is responsible for marketing and sales, while also working in the vineyards and overseeing the production of our red wines in the cellar. Helene is Head of Administration and, alongside her work in the vineyards, takes care of white wine production in the cellar, complementing her older sister’s role.
Together, the four of us are delighted to welcome you to our winery.
The Markowitsch Family
“What a privilege it is to be a winemaker. It’s a profession that fills me with endless passion. And what a gift it is that this very same passion has also found its way to our daughters.”
“In my former life, I was a kindergarten teacher. But as my love for Gerhard grew, so did my love for wine. Today, I simply cannot imagine a life other than this one – living and working for our family winery.”
“I love the variety that comes with what I do. One day I’m fine-tuning wines in the cellar, the next I’m sharing the finished wine with people around the world. Wine people are passionate people. They appreciate beauty, craftsmanship and, above all, the joy of living. Great food and great wine – that’s what life is all about for me.”
“After graduating from tourism school, I quickly realised where my future lay. Studying International Wine Business confirmed that this was exactly the right path for me. Where do I see myself in twenty years? Running our family winery together with my sister, proudly continuing what our parents have built.”
